Zagrebačka dionička pivovara i tvornica slada, the Zagreb joint-stock brewery and malt factory, was founded in 1892. Its founders included Hrvatska eskomptna banka, Dragan Petar Turković, and Gustav Pongratz. According to the Croatian Technical Encyclopedia, beer production began in 1893 after the factory premises at Ilica 224 were built. The brewery was equipped with a Habermann cooling system and an electric generator, and plans included a large garden for visitors. The company’s establishment and the subsequent start of production were separate stages in the development of Zagrebačka pivovara.
