Kajetan Šeper Founds a Brewery in Osijek

Breweries

In 1856, Kajetan Šeper founded a brewery in Osijek after learning the brewing trade in Bohemia and Austria. The enterprise is identified in the Croatian Technical Encyclopedia as the First Slavonian Steam Brewery and Ice Factory of Cajetan Šeper, the business from which Osječka pivovara developed. Šeper’s brewery was built near the city center and the Drava River. Its foundation added a new brewing enterprise to a town whose beer production had already appeared in seventeenth-century records.
