Nikola Vranyczany Establishes a Brewery in Karlovac

In 1854, Nikola Vranyczany established a brewery on his Prhovo estate in Karlovac. The venture became the historical starting point of Karlovačka pivovara, one of Croatia’s established brewing businesses. Production at the site was interrupted. By 1877 the premises had been converted into a factory making clay stoves and other clay products. In 1896, the Vranyczany family sold the factory to Sarajevo brewer Đuro Aschenbrenner, who restarted beer production. The brewery’s history therefore includes both an early foundation and a later revival.
