Sebastian Riegele Acquires Zum Goldenen Ross

Breweries

In 1884, Sebastian Riegele Sr. acquired the Augsburg brewery and beer tavern Zum Goldenen Ross. The brewery’s documented history extended back centuries, but the purchase brought it into the Riegele family and established the connection from which the modern Brauhaus Riegele developed. The brewery subsequently operated under the Riegele name. Sebastian Riegele’s son took over its management in 1904, and the family expanded the business with a new brewery near Augsburg’s main railway station beginning in 1911.
