Death Of Joseph Groll

Joseph Groll died in Vilshofen an der Donau on November 22, 1887. He had been born in the same Bavarian town on August 21, 1813, and learned brewing in his father’s brewery before his work took him to Pilsen. Groll’s historical importance rests on his 1842 work at the Burghers’ Brewery in Pilsen, where he brewed the first beer later known as Pilsner Urquell. His career links Bavarian brewing knowledge with the creation of the pilsner style, one of the most influential lager styles in beer history.
