The Brewery Behind Riegele Is First Documented In Augsburg
In 1386, the Augsburg brewery later known as Zum Goldenen Ross was first documented. This early brewing operation forms the historical origin of today’s Brauhaus Riegele and places its documented brewing tradition among the oldest still represented by an active German brewery. The Riegele name entered the brewery’s history in 1884, when Sebastian Riegele Sr. acquired Zum Goldenen Ross. The acquisition connected the centuries-old Augsburg brewing lineage with the family and company name under which the brewery continues to operate.
