Zum WØL Wins World's Best IPA At The World Beer Awards

Community

In 2025, Laura Weber and Lennart Köhl of the Saarbrücken-based craft brewery Zum WØL BrauArt won the title of World's Best IPA at the World Beer Awards with their beer "Wolf Gang," a Black IPA. The two founders brew and develop the brewery’s beers together, combining their shared interest in brewing with professional backgrounds in design. After advancing through multiple rounds of blind tasting at the national and international levels, Wolf Gang was selected as the overall winner in the IPA category. According to the World Beer Awards judges, Wolf Gang featured tropical floral hop aromas alongside dried fruit notes, with flavors of red berries, coffee, and pronounced roasted malt bitterness. The victory brought international recognition to Weber, Köhl, and their small German brewery. It also placed a woman brewer among the creators of one of the year’s most internationally successful beers, illustrating women’s continuing role in contemporary craft brewing and beer competitions.
