The Rittergut Döllnitz Brewery Is Dismantled

In 1945, after the end of the Second World War, the Rittergut Döllnitz was expropriated by the Soviet occupation authorities. Its brewery equipment was dismantled in connection with German reparations, ending more than a century of Gose production at the estate. Rittergut Döllnitz had developed into the principal supplier of Gose to Leipzig and Halle and was the last surviving producer of the style by the end of the war. Its closure therefore brought commercial Gose production to a temporary halt. The interruption lasted until former Döllnitz brewer Friedrich Wurzler began making Gose in Leipzig in 1949.
