Birrificio Italiano opened to the public in Lurago Marinone, near Como, on April 3, 1996. Agostino Arioli had founded the project in 1994, and the brewery began with a 2-hectoliter brewhouse and its first two beers, Tipopils and Rossoscura. Birrificio Italiano became one of the pioneering breweries of Italian craft beer. Baladin describes 1996 as the symbolic birth year of the Italian craft beer movement and names Birrificio Italiano, Baladin, and Birrificio Lambrate as three producers that deeply influenced the sector.
