Daniel Eberhard Baring Publishes the First Major History of Broyhan

Science

In 1750, Hannover-based historian and librarian Daniel Eberhard Baring published his Kurze Historische und Physicalische Nachricht von dem in Hannover zuerst erfundenen Getränk Broihan. The dedicated work presented an account of Broyhan’s origins and its reputed inventor, Cord Broyhan, while also discussing practical observations related to brewing. Baring supplemented the historical narrative with laws and brewing ordinances from Hannover, making the publication an important surviving source for the city’s Broyhan tradition and brewing institutions. In 1751, he followed it with additional historical material under the title Neue Nachrichten und Zusätze.
