Gutshofbrauerei Das Freie Revives Broyhan

Styles

In 2017, Gutshofbrauerei Das Freie in Rethmar added a Broyhan interpretation to its range, bringing Hannover’s historic beer style back into commercial production after a long absence. The brewery presented the beer explicitly as a revival of the traditional Broyhan associated with Cord Broyhan and the city of Hannover. The release reconnected a nearly forgotten northern German beer style with contemporary craft brewing and historical reconstruction. Rather than continuing an unbroken brewing tradition, Das Freie’s Broyhan represents a modern revival based on the surviving historical record and renewed interest in regional beer history.
