Hofbräuhaus Sells Its First Einbeck-Style Beer

In the early 17th century, the Munich Hofbräuhaus tried to reproduce the strong beer associated with Einbeck. By 1610, the beer was being sold not only to the ducal court but also to innkeepers and private customers, yet Bavarian beer-history sources state that it still did not fully match the Einbeck model. In 1612, Maximilian I brought the Einbeck brewer Elias Pichler to Munich. This step connected the Hofbräuhaus directly to Einbeck brewing knowledge and prepared the way for the Hofbräuhaus to brew an Einbeck-style beer in 1614, a development later associated with the Bavarian bock tradition.
