Einbecker Beer For The First Time In Bavaria

In 1540, Einbecker beer was imported for the Bavarian ducal court in Munich. The older trade route connected Einbeck beer with southern German destinations such as Landshut and Munich, and the court obtained the beer through long-distance trade, including traders in Nuremberg. The beer was highly valued but expensive by the time it reached Bavaria. This import history matters because it links Einbeck’s medieval export beer to the Bavarian court culture that later tried to reproduce “Ainpöckisch” beer locally, a development that helped turn the Einbeck name into the Bavarian word bock.
