Zundert Starts Brewing At Maria Toevlucht Abbey

Breweries

In 2013, the monks of Maria Toevlucht Abbey in Zundert, the Netherlands, began brewing Trappist beer at Brouwerij De Kievit. The first beer was launched as Zundert Trappist and later became known as Zundert 8 after the brewery introduced Zundert 10 in 2018. Zundert expanded the small group of abbeys producing beer under the Authentic Trappist Product tradition. The beer was brewed within the abbey walls under monastic supervision, with production kept limited and tied to the needs of the abbey community. Its arrival made Zundert one of the two Dutch Trappist beer names alongside La Trappe.
