Straßenbräu Opens at Berlin’s Ostkreuz

In December 2015, Timo Thoennißen opened Straßenbräu on Neue Bahnhofstraße near Berlin’s Ostkreuz station. He had left a career in finance and converted a former construction-company storage space into a small brewpub. The original location combined a taproom with a compact brewing system, while brewmaster Sebastian Pfister developed both regular offerings and experimental small-batch beers. Straßenbräu became part of Berlin’s developing neighborhood-based craft-beer culture, serving its own beers alongside guest offerings in Friedrichshain. After the limited brewing space at the original brewpub became insufficient, the company expanded production to a larger brewery in Berlin-Marzahn. By spring 2021, the new facility was supplying beer to the Ostkreuz taproom while providing substantially greater capacity for lager and ale production.
