Brewing Returns to Bremen’s Union Brewery

In December 2015, the Freie Brau Union Bremen opened at the historic Union brewery in Walle, returning brewing to premises where production had stopped in 1968. The project restored a connection between the surviving brewery buildings and their original use. A new 20-hectoliter stainless-steel brewhouse had been installed in September on the site of the former brewhouse. Fermentation and storage tanks, bottling and kegging equipment, and an adjoining brewpub supported the new operation. The reopening combined the reuse of Bremen’s brewing heritage with a contemporary craft-beer business.
