BrewDog Is Founded in Fraserburgh

In April 2007, James Watt and Martin Dickie founded BrewDog in Fraserburgh, a fishing town in northeastern Scotland. Both founders were 24 years old. They leased a building, financed their equipment through bank loans, and began producing small batches of beer that they bottled by hand and sold at local markets. Fraserburgh became BrewDog’s original brewing base and the place where the first batch of Punk IPA was produced. The brewery’s founding established the starting point for a company that would become one of the most prominent—and later most controversial—participants in the modern British craft-beer movement.
