Budweiser Budvar Enters The US Market

In 1906, Budweiser Budvar began selling beer in the United States. The move brought a Czech brewery from České Budějovice, historically known in German as Budweis, into the same market where Anheuser-Busch had been brewing beer under the Budweiser name since 1876. The entry into the American market became part of the wider Budweiser trademark conflict. From 1907 onward, legal and commercial disputes over the Budweiser name increasingly divided usage by territory, with Anheuser-Busch associated with the name in North America and Budweiser Budvar using alternative branding such as Czechvar in the United States.
