The First Zythos BierFestival Is Held

Events

On March 6, 2004, the first Zythos BierFestival opened in the Stadsfeestzaal in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. The two-day festival was organized by Zythos, the recently established Belgian beer-consumer association that had succeeded the Objectieve Bierproevers. The festival brought brewers, beer firms, and consumers together around direct tasting and independent beer appreciation. Rather than presenting beer mainly through large brands or ceremonial heritage, Zythos emphasized consumer education, brewery diversity, and discovery. The festival later outgrew its Sint-Niklaas venue and moved to Leuven in 2012, becoming one of Belgium’s most prominent consumer-led showcases of Belgian beer.
