The First Toer de Geuze Is Held
On October 19, 1997, HORAL organized the first Toer de Geuze in Belgium’s Pajottenland and Senne Valley. Six Lambic producers and Gueuze blenders—3 Fonteinen, Boon, De Cam, De Troch, Lindemans, and Timmermans—opened their premises to the public, allowing visitors to explore the region’s traditional breweries and blending houses. The event turned the normally dispersed world of Lambic production into a public regional tour centered on brewery visits, tastings, and direct contact with producers. Toer de Geuze subsequently became a recurring HORAL event and an important means of promoting traditional Lambic and Gueuze culture beyond specialist circles.
