Gose Brewing Returns to Goslar

In 1993, retired brewmaster Andreas Wagenführer resumed the production of Goslarer Gose at the Gosebrauhaus Goslar-Oker. Gose brewing in Goslar had largely disappeared around 1840, apart from a brief revival by the Fritz Natermann brewery in 1935. Wagenführer’s brewery in Oker, a district of Goslar, therefore restored regular production to the beer’s region of origin after a long interruption. Wagenführer based his interpretation on an 1869 account by Heinrich Steckhan, a former brewmaster at Goslar’s Societätsbrauerei. The beer was initially served at the historic Worthmühle restaurant beside the Gose stream. Wagenführer continued production until 2004, when Odin Paul and the newly established Brauhaus Goslar took over the modern Goslar Gose tradition.
