Kraft Bräu Opens in Trier
After the closure of Löwenbrauerei, Trier was left without a local brewery of comparable visibility. Restaurateur Hans-Werner Kraft and his managing director Klaus Tonkaboni responded by establishing a house brewery at the Blesius Garten hotel and restaurant in Trier-Olewig. Kraft Bräu officially opened on September 28, 1998, becoming Trier’s first modern house brewery. At its launch, Kraft Bräu offered three unfiltered beers: a pale beer, a dark beer, and a wheat beer. The brewery presented these beers as a locally brewed alternative to the widely available Pilsner-style beers that dominated the market.
