The Brewery That Became Privatbrauerei Lasser Is Established in Lörrach

In 1850, brewer Friedrich Wilhelm Enderlin acquired land in Lörrach and built the brewery that later became Privatbrauerei Lasser. Johann Jakob Grether-Dietschy purchased the business in 1858 and leased it to Adam Georg Lasser, an experienced brewer who gave the brewery its enduring family name. Adam Lasser bought the brewery, its tavern, and additional property in 1864. After Adam Lasser died in 1865, his brother Wolfgang continued the business. Wolfgang’s widow Karoline managed the brewery after his death in 1880, and later generations of the Lasser family carried it forward. Leadership eventually passed through the Lasser-Walter family, with Andreas Walter taking responsibility in 2000. The brewery’s long continuity made it one of Lörrach’s oldest family businesses and a surviving example of regional, independently rooted brewing in southwestern Germany.
