Hoppin' Frog Brewery Is Founded In Akron
In 2006, brewer Fred Karm founded Hoppin' Frog Brewery in Akron, Ohio. Karm had begun homebrewing in 1994 and entered professional brewing in 1996 before establishing a brewery of his own. He conceived Hoppin' Frog as an independent operation where he could make distinctive beers without compromising recipes, ingredients, strength, or flavor for a larger production partner. Hoppin' Frog built its identity around intensely flavored specialty beers drawn from both established styles and Karm's own interpretations. Its best-known releases include B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher, an oatmeal imperial stout that became the brewery's flagship beer. The brewery later developed an international market, exporting its beer outside the United States from 2008.
