Oskar Blues Introduces Ten FIDY

In 2006, Oskar Blues Brewery first brewed Ten FIDY at its brewpub in Lyons, Colorado. The imperial stout was built from large quantities of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats, and hops. Its concentrated wort and unusually high proportion of specialty malt produced a dense beer with prominent roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and caramel flavors. The name refers to the beer’s original strength of 10.5 percent alcohol by volume. Ten FIDY became one of Oskar Blues’ best-known beers and an important example of the powerful imperial stouts produced during the expansion of American craft brewing. The brewery later released barrel-aged versions, extending the beer into the growing American tradition of maturing strong stouts in used spirits barrels.
