Birth Of Anton Dreher
Anton Dreher senior was born in Schwechat near Vienna on June 7, 1810. He grew up in the family environment of the Klein Schwechat brewery and later became one of the defining Austrian brewers of the 19th century. Dreher is central to the Vienna Lager storyline because he connected British brewing technology, improved pale malt, bottom fermentation, and industrial brewery organization. He took over the Klein Schwechat brewery in 1836, brewed the first Vienna Lager in 1841, and built a brewing business that helped make pale lager one of the decisive beer developments of the 19th century. He died in Schwechat on December 27, 1863.
