Anton Dreher Starts To Brew The First Vienna Lager

In 1841, Anton Dreher began brewing bottom-fermented lager beer at Schwechat near Vienna. He applied technical knowledge gathered from his study travels, including modern malting practice and the use of cool fermentation with bottom-fermenting yeast. The beer became known as Vienna lager and marked a major step in the continental lager revolution. Its amber color, cleaner fermentation profile, and controlled production methods connected British-inspired pale malt technology with Central European bottom-fermentation practice, and the style later became one of the important reference points for pale lager and pilsner history.
