Gert Christiaens and Roland De Bus Revive Oud Beersel

In 2005, Gert Christiaens and Roland De Bus revived Oud Beersel after the traditional Lambic producer had been closed since the end of 2002. Christiaens, a devoted drinker of Oud Beersel Oude Geuze, had discovered that the brewery had ceased operating and decided to preserve its beers and brewing heritage. He asked his friend Roland De Bus to join the effort, and the new Oud Beersel company was founded in July 2005. Oud Beersel officially reopened at the end of November 2005 with the launch of Bersalis, a non-Lambic beer introduced in part to support the renewed business while traditional Lambic matured over the longer periods required for Gueuze and Kriek. The revival preserved the Oud Beersel name and its connection to the traditional Lambic culture of Beersel and the Pajottenland, beginning a new chapter after the three-year closure.
