Oud Beersel Closes
At the end of 2002, Oud Beersel ceased operations after four generations of the Vandervelden family. Danny Draps decided to stop the brewery, while the associated Bierhuis was sold and subsequently converted into a flower shop. The closure brought an end to the continuous operation of one of Beersel's traditional Lambic producers. The remaining beer from Oud Beersel was taken over by Brouwerij Boon and sold through 3 Fonteinen. The closure left the future of the brewery and its traditional Lambic and Gueuze production uncertain and directly set the stage for the effort to revive Oud Beersel that began the following year.
