Franz Lehner Founds The Linz Brewery
Franz Lehner founded a small brewery in Linz in 1836, at the site of today’s Brau Union headquarters in Poschacherstraße. Brau Union Österreich describes this as the founding of the suburban brewery that laid the cornerstone for the later Poschacher brewery in Linz. The brewery became part of the longer history of Linzer Bier. BeerTasting states that beer was brewed in Linz for 145 years, until brewing ended in 1981, and connects the beginning of that history to Lehner’s small brewery in 1836.
