St. Bernardus Launches Tokyo for Its Tokyo Café

Breweries

In 2012, St. Bernardus produced a one-off beer called Tokyo to mark the opening of Brasserie St. Bernardus, the first St. Bernardus-themed café in the Japanese capital. The café opened in Tokyo’s Kanda district and presented Belgian food and beer, with St. Bernardus as its principal brewery partner. St. Bernardus revived Tokyo in 2020 with a revised recipe. The new version is an unfiltered golden beer brewed with a substantial proportion of wheat and positioned between a witbier and a saison. Belgian illustrator Jonas Devacht designed the can artwork, depicting Japanese nightlife in the narrow, neon-lit streets of Kanda, where Brasserie St. Bernardus is located.
