De Dochter van de Korenaar Is Founded in Baarle-Hertog

Breweries

In 2007, Ronald Mengerink and Monique de Baat established De Dochter van de Korenaar in Baarle-Hertog, Belgium. Mengerink built the small brewery in space attached to the family's home, turning a long-standing ambition into a working business. Its first beer was Noblesse, a pale, top-fermented beer brewed to his own recipe. The brewery brought commercial brewing back to Baarle-Hertog after a long absence. Mengerink was Dutch, but the brewery operated on the Belgian side of Baarle's unusual border landscape. In an interview published in February 2008, following a visit to the new brewery the previous December, he explained that Belgium's brewing reputation and more favorable conditions for small breweries had proved advantages for the business.
