AB InBev Acquires Birra del Borgo
Anheuser-Busch InBev confirmed on April 22, 2016, that it would acquire Birra del Borgo, the Italian craft brewery founded by Leonardo Di Vincenzo in Borgorose. Reports at the time stated that Birra del Borgo would become a wholly owned subsidiary of AB InBev, while Di Vincenzo would continue to lead the company as CEO. The acquisition was a major turning point for the Italian craft beer scene because it brought one of the country’s best-known craft breweries into the portfolio of the world’s largest brewing group. Cronache di Birra described the sale as the first Italian case of a craft brewery being acquired by a major industrial brewer and called it a historic watershed for the national movement.
