Georg Schneider IV Preserves Schneider Weisse Through the Second World War

In 1945, Georg Schneider IV prepared G. Schneider & Sohn to continue brewing after the destruction of its Munich production facilities during the Second World War. He had led the family brewery since 1924 and had acquired the historic Weisses Bräuhaus in Kelheim in 1928. That decision proved crucial when bombing destroyed the Munich brewery and most of the company’s outlets in Munich and Augsburg, while the Kelheim site escaped major damage. Georg Schneider IV transferred production to Kelheim and invested in rebuilding the surviving brewery. American occupation authorities permitted G. Schneider & Sohn to resume production only a few months after the war ended. The move preserved Schneider Weisse as a specialist Bavarian wheat-beer brewery and established Kelheim as its permanent production site.
