Paul Vanneste Establishes De Gouden Boom in Bruges

Breweries

In 1983, Paul Vanneste established De Gouden Boom in Bruges together with a brewery from Lembeek. The new enterprise followed the acquisition of ’t Hamerken by Haacht and continued brewing at the historic site between the Langestraat and Verbrand Nieuwland. The site had a long history of brewing, distilling, and malting. Paul’s great-grandfather Jules Vanneste had taken over the existing business in 1872 and later expanded its brewing facilities. De Gouden Boom developed a range of top-fermented regional beers; Bruges’s 1997 heritage guide lists Brugs Tarwebier, Sint-Arnoldus beers, and Brugse Tripel among its products.
