Baltika Launches No. 6 Porter
In 1994, Baltika developed and began producing No. 6 Porter in Russia. The brewery describes the beer as drawing on English porter recipes and using both pale and dark malts. It became the porter in Baltika’s numbered range of beers. Baltika Porter appeared among the commercial examples in the BJCP’s 2004 Baltic porter guidelines, and No. 6 remained an example in the 2021 edition. Its place alongside older Finnish and Polish porters shows how the modern style category brought together beers with different production histories, including a Russian brand introduced in the 1990s.
