The First European Beer Star Competition Is Held
In 2004, the first European Beer Star competition was held in Germany. Created by the association Private Brauereien Bayern, the competition was intended to recognize beers of high sensory quality while giving particular attention to traditional beer styles of European origin. The inaugural competition received 271 entries. Beers were evaluated within defined style categories by an expert tasting panel, with gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded in each category. European Beer Star subsequently developed into an annual international competition attracting breweries and judges from well beyond Europe.
