Kenya Breweries Begins Production in Nairobi

Breweries

Kenya Breweries was incorporated on September 8, 1922, and brewed its first batch on December 14. Founded by George and Charles Hurst during British colonial rule, the company supplied European-style lager from Nairobi and later marketed its principal beer as Tusker. The brewery became an important base for industrial beer production in East Africa. Its history also sits alongside, rather than replacing, the region’s older fermented-grain traditions.
