Samuel Allsopp Dies

People

Samuel Allsopp died on February 26, 1838. By the time of his death, he had transformed the Burton-on-Trent brewery he purchased in 1807 into one of the most important names in the India Pale Ale trade. After his death, the brewery continued under his sons Charles and Henry Allsopp as Allsopp & Sons. Their continuation of the business helped carry Burton-brewed pale ale into a period of major nineteenth-century expansion, during which Burton-on-Trent became closely associated with India Pale Ale.
