The Future Brasserie Dupont Begins Brewing Saison at Its Farm-Brewery

In 1844, the Rimaux-Deridder farm in Tourpes, in Belgium’s Hainaut province, became a farm-brewery producing honey beer and beers described as Saison. The site had operated as a farm since 1759 and would later become Brasserie Dupont after the Dupont family acquired it in 1920. The brewery associates these early Saison beers with refreshing agricultural workers during the warmer months. This history places the Tourpes farm-brewery within Hainaut’s regional Saison tradition, but it does not mean that the brewery invented the style or that the modern Saison Dupont recipe already existed in 1844. Louis Dupont revived and developed the brewery’s Saison after taking over the property in 1920.
