Samuel Allsopp Is Born

Samuel Allsopp was born on August 12, 1780, in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. He later became the brewer and businessman behind Samuel Allsopp & Sons, one of Burton-on-Trent's most important brewing firms. Allsopp's historical importance to beer lies in his role in the development of India Pale Ale. After acquiring the brewery from the Wilson family in 1807, he entered the India beer trade in the 1820s and helped establish Burton-on-Trent as a major center of IPA production.
