CREW Republic Is Founded In Munich
In 2011, Mario Hanel and Timm Schnigula founded the brewery that became CREW Republic in Munich. The two former work colleagues began brewing on a home-brewing system in a shared apartment in the city’s Glockenbachviertel after encounters with more varied beer cultures during travels abroad inspired them to make their own beer. CREW Republic initially had its beers produced under contract before establishing its own production facility north of Munich several years later. Its early beers, including Drunken Sailor IPA, positioned the company within the emerging modern German craft-beer movement.
