Matuška Begins Brewing in Broumy
On April 13, 2009, Easter Monday, brewmaster Martin Matuška founded the Matuška Brewery in Broumy and brewed its first batch, a special dark lager. Matuška had worked in the brewing industry since 1981 before establishing the small family brewery in the Křivoklátsko region west of Prague. Matuška combined Czech lager traditions with a growing interest in modern international beer styles. Its Raptor IPA became one of the early prominent Czech interpretations of American-style India pale ale, followed by other hop-forward beers alongside the brewery’s lagers. Matuška became an influential name in the emergence of the modern Czech craft beer scene.
